Unfortunately, it only takes 1 person out of 100 to harm a company’s online reputation. When a large automotive dealership found their online rating abysmal despite their great services and customer focus, they needed an ethical solution that would move them from a 1-star rating to a 4-star rating.

The Challenge:
Let’s face it, we’re all worried about our reputation, and a series of negative online reviews is the modern-day plague for businesses. SI was given the task to push a large automotive dealership’s negative reviews off the top pages of the most trafficked search engines (Google, Yahoo!, Bing).

The Big Idea:
Kill them with kindness. Because it’s illegal to plug a search engine with a bunch of positive reviews (known as Google Astroturfing), we put our keyboards to work and typed out a series of 40 positive articles to submit to the search engines. Large search engines are good at picking up spam, so we strategically published these articles over a five-month period using multiple directories and media outlets.articular point in the sales process. We developed an interactive social media kiosk that allows customers to share their experience on Facebook and, most importantly, post a Google and Yahoo! review.

The Results:
  • Within the first month, negative reviews were filtered out of the first pages of Google, Yahoo! and Bing
  • The series of positive articles defended the company’s online reputation
  • Positive articles continue to promote positive experiences
  • Yahoo! ratings improved from 1 star to 4 stars
