YouTube TV: Another Example of TraDigital

The Google-owned streaming video company, YouTube, is officially jumping into the live-streaming television game with a new subscription service called YouTube TV. 

This anticipated new service will offer live television content from more than 40 TV networks — ABC, NBC, Fox, and CBS — and 35 or so of their affiliated cable channels, including ESPN, Disney Channel, MSNBC, National Geographic and Fox News. Cable-replacement streaming services work exactly the same as having cable — live channels presented in real time — except they come streaming over the Internet rather than via an analog wire. YouTube TV will also eventually work with Google Home, so you will be able to ask Home to start playing a show on your Chromecast and it'll "just work." The great thing about YouTube TV is that you don't have to give up the channels that you love. Among other perks, YouTube TV will give subscribers a DVR tool for recording shows and unlimited storage space in the cloud for a monthly free of just $35!

They did not announce a specific release date for YouTube TV, saying only that the service will be available “soon in the largest U.S. markets” before expanding coverage to the rest of the country. You can sign up on YouTube’s website to get an alert when the service is available where you live.

This is huge for the marketing world. A digital platform, for those new to the term, refers to just five companies who have earned the title: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and Microsoft.
